Career.zycto is actively seeking a diligent and highly organized Trailer Yard Assistant to join our dynamic logistics team in Ketu, Lagos. This full-time, on-site role is pivotal to ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our trailer yard, a critical hub in our supply chain network. As a Trailer Yard Assistant, you will be the eyes and ears on the ground, responsible for the systematic movement, organization, and tracking of trailers within the yard. Your primary focus will be to facilitate seamless loading and unloading processes, maintain a safe working environment, and ensure optimal utilization of yard space. Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the movement and spotting of trailers within the yard to optimize space and facilitate loading/unloading operations.
- Perform routine checks on trailers for damage, reporting any issues immediately to the supervisor.
- Maintain accurate records of trailer locations, incoming/outgoing movements, and inventory using designated systems.
- Assist drivers with backing trailers into docks and navigating the yard safely.
- Ensure the yard is kept clean, organized, and free of hazards at all times.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, drivers, and warehouse staff regarding trailer status and availability.
- Operate yard hostlers or shifters safely and efficiently, if certified and required.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, including traffic management and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
- Conduct daily yard inspections to identify and mitigate potential safety risks.
- Support inventory management of trailers and equipment, ensuring everything is accounted for.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 6 months experience in a yard operations, logistics, or similar role.
- Basic knowledge of trailer types and yard management principles.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced outdoor environment, sometimes in varying weather conditions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to safety protocols and procedures.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience operating yard hostlers or shifters (valid driver's license preferred).
- Familiarity with inventory management software or systems.
