Key Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth legal research using various online databases (e.g., CanLII, Westlaw, LexisNexis) and library resources to support ongoing cases and legal opinions.
- Prepare comprehensive summaries of statutes, regulations, case law, and legal articles.
- Draft memoranda, case briefs, and other legal documents as directed by supervising lawyers and paralegals.
- Assist in the preparation of legal arguments, pleadings, and discovery materials.
- Organize and maintain physical and electronic client files, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
- Verify citations and factual statements in legal documents.
- Monitor legal developments and legislative changes relevant to the firm's practice areas.
- Support administrative tasks as needed to ensure the smooth operation of the legal department.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to strategic discussions where appropriate.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in legal research methodologies and online legal databases (e.g., CanLII, Westlaw, LexisNexis).
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in both English and French (bilingualism is mandatory for this role).
- Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
