Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Patent Analyst to join our remote team, based out of Don Mills, Toronto. As a Patent Analyst, you will be instrumental in conducting comprehensive patent searches, analyzing technical documents, and providing critical insights into patentability, infringement, and validity across various technology sectors. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct extensive patent searches (novelty, freedom-to-operate, validity, landscape) using various patent databases and search tools.
  • Analyze patent specifications, claims, and prosecution histories to determine scope, validity, and potential for infringement.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, opinions, and summaries based on patent research and analysis, suitable for both legal and technical audiences.
  • Monitor competitive intellectual property landscapes and provide strategic intelligence to clients regarding emerging technologies and patent trends.
  • Collaborate with legal teams, inventors, and clients to understand their needs and provide expert advice on patent-related matters.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of patent laws, regulations, and industry best practices in Canada and internationally.
  • Assist in the preparation of patent applications and responses to office actions, as required.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Patent Analyst or in a similar intellectual property role.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Chemistry, or a related scientific/technical field.
  • Proven expertise in conducting comprehensive patent searches using commercial and public patent databases (e.g., USPTO, EPO, WIPO, Google Patents).
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex technical and legal documents.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports and presenting findings.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Deep understanding of patent examination guidelines and intellectual property law principles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or Ph.D. in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline.
  • Certification as a Patent Agent or Patent Examiner.
  • Experience with patent analytics software and tools.
  • Familiarity with various technology sectors, such as AI, biotechnology, telecommunications, or clean energy.
  • Previous experience working remotely in a professional capacity.
