Key Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with patient handling and restraint during examinations, treatments, and procedures.
- Prepare and maintain examination rooms, surgical suites, and treatment areas, ensuring they are clean, organized, and stocked.
- Sterilize surgical instruments and maintain equipment to ensure optimal cleanliness and functionality.
- Monitor and maintain inventory of medical supplies, medications, and food, and assist with ordering when necessary.
- Perform general cleaning and disinfection of the clinic premises to maintain a hygienic environment.
- Assist with patient intake and discharge, including preparing patient records and communicating with clients.
- Provide basic animal husbandry, including feeding, walking, and ensuring the comfort of hospitalized patients.
- Answer phones, schedule appointments, and manage client inquiries with professionalism and empathy.
- Help maintain accurate patient records and assist with administrative tasks as needed.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 6 months experience in an animal care setting (e.g., vet clinic, animal shelter, pet store)
- Demonstrated compassion and empathy for animals
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to lift and restrain animals safely (up to 50 lbs)
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Basic computer proficiency
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification as a Veterinary Assistant or completion of an animal care program
- Experience with veterinary software (e.g., Avimark, Cornerstone)
- Knowledge of animal first aid and basic medical terminology
- Bilingualism (English and French) is a strong asset
