Your primary focus will be to empower your client, enabling them to maintain their independence and enjoy a fulfilling life despite any challenges they may face. This includes assisting with personal care routines such as bathing, dressing, and grooming, as well as managing medication schedules accurately and responsibly. You will also be responsible for preparing nutritious meals tailored to your client’s dietary needs and preferences, performing light household duties to maintain a clean and safe living environment, and accompanying clients to appointments or social outings.
Beyond the practical tasks, a significant part of being a Live-In Carer involves providing genuine companionship. You’ll engage in stimulating conversations, participate in hobbies and activities, and offer emotional support, fostering a strong, positive relationship built on trust and respect. Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive personal care, including bathing, dressing, and grooming.
- Administer medication according to prescribed schedules and document accurately.
- Prepare nutritious and appealing meals, considering dietary requirements and preferences.
- Perform light household duties, ensuring a clean, tidy, and safe living environment.
- Offer companionship and engage clients in stimulating activities, hobbies, and conversations.
- Accompany clients to appointments, social outings, and errands.
- Monitor and report any changes in the client's health, mood, or behaviour.
- Maintain clear and accurate daily records of care provided.
- Assist with mobility and transfers, using appropriate equipment if necessary.
- Promote the client's independence and dignity at all times.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 1 year paid experience in caregiving or a similar role.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrable empathy, patience, and compassion.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Reliable, trustworthy, and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Proficient in English (spoken and written).
- Basic cooking and household management skills.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care, or equivalent qualification.
- First Aid certification.
- Experience with specific conditions such as dementia, Parkinson's, or stroke recovery.
- Full UK driving license (desirable, but not always essential depending on client).
- References from previous care roles.
