Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently operate heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) for the transportation of various goods.
- Perform pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicle systems, equipment, and accessories such as tires, lights, brakes, and refrigeration units.
- Ensure all loads are securely fastened and comply with weight distribution regulations.
- Plan routes and meet delivery schedules in a timely manner, adapting to unforeseen delays.
- Record cargo information, hours of service, distance traveled, fuel consumption, and other details required in logs and daily reports.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, clients, and team members regarding delivery status or issues.
- Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, company safety policies, and transport regulations.
- Assist with loading and unloading goods as required, ensuring proper handling to prevent damage.
- Maintain a clean and presentable vehicle at all times.
Required Skills
- Valid Class 1 (Category C+E) or Class 2 (Category C) UK Driving Licence (or equivalent international licence with pathway to UK conversion).
- Current Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence).
- Minimum of 2 years of professional HGV driving experience.
- Proven track record of safe driving and adherence to road safety regulations.
- Excellent knowledge of UK road networks and traffic laws.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical fitness to handle the demands of the job, including loading/unloading.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings and weekends if required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with different types of trailers (e.g., curtainsiders, flatbeds, refrigerated).
- ADR certification (for hazardous goods transport, if applicable to future needs).
- Familiarity with digital tachograph systems and record-keeping.
- Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge for minor roadside issues.
