Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and evaluate residential mortgage loan applications (Conventional, FHA, VA, USDA, Jumbo) to determine creditworthiness and compliance with all applicable guidelines.
- Assess borrower income, assets, credit reports, and collateral to mitigate risk and make informed lending decisions.
- Ensure all loan files adhere strictly to agency, investor, federal, and state regulations, as well as company policies.
- Communicate effectively and proactively with loan officers, processors, and other stakeholders regarding loan conditions, decisions, and documentation requirements.
- Utilize Automated Underwriting Systems (AUS) such as Desktop Underwriter (DU) and Loan Product Advisor (LPA) proficiently.
- Provide clear, concise, and well-supported explanations for loan approvals, suspensions, or denials.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of mortgage products, underwriting guidelines, and industry changes.
- Manage a pipeline of loan applications efficiently to meet service level agreements and closing deadlines.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Mortgage Underwriter.
- Demonstrated expertise in underwriting Conventional, FHA, and VA loans.
- Strong understanding of federal and state mortgage lending regulations.
- Proficiency in Automated Underwriting Systems (AUS) including DU and LP.
- Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct Endorsement (DE) certification for FHA loans.
- VA Staff Appraisal Reviewer (SAR) or Lender Appraisal Processing Program (LAPP) certification.
- Experience with Jumbo and USDA loan products.
- Familiarity with various Loan Origination Software (LOS) platforms.
- Advanced certifications in mortgage lending or finance.
