Career.zycto is actively seeking highly skilled and motivated freelance translators to join our growing network of language professionals operating from Kisii County, Kenya, and beyond. As a Translator for freelance projects, you will play a crucial role in enabling effective cross-cultural communication for our diverse clientele, which spans various industries and sectors globally. You will be responsible for translating various types of content, including but not limited to, technical documents, captivating marketing materials, intricate legal texts, sensitive medical reports, engaging website content, and creative narratives. The primary language pairs will involve translation from English into Kiswahili and/or other local Kenyan languages (e.g., Ekegusii, Luhya, Kikuyu), and vice versa. Key Responsibilities
- Translate documents and other content accurately and contextually from source to target language (English to Kiswahili and/or other local Kenyan languages, and vice versa).
- Ensure translated content maintains its original meaning, tone, and intent, preserving cultural nuances.
- Utilize translation memory tools, glossaries, and style guides provided for specific projects to ensure consistency.
- Conduct thorough proofreading and editing of translations to ensure linguistic accuracy and cultural appropriateness.
- Adhere strictly to project deadlines and communicate proactively regarding project status or challenges.
- Maintain absolute confidentiality and ensure data security for all client-related materials.
- Communicate effectively and proactively with project managers regarding project progress, challenges, or queries.
Required Skills
- Exceptional fluency in English and Kiswahili (both written and spoken, C2 level or equivalent).
- Proven professional experience in translation, demonstrating a strong portfolio of completed projects.
- Excellent understanding of cultural nuances, linguistic subtleties, and subject-matter terminology.
- Strong attention to detail and unwavering commitment to delivering high-quality, error-free translations.
- Proficiency with CAT (Computer-Assisted Translation) tools (e.g., Trados Studio, MemoQ, Memsource, Wordfast).
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
- Reliable internet connection and a conducive home office setup for remote work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Translation, Linguistics, Modern Languages, or a related field.
- Certification from a recognized national or international translation body (e.g., ATA, ITI, KATI).
- Specialization or proven experience in specific fields such as legal, medical, technical, IT, or marketing translation.
- Proficiency in at least one other local Kenyan language (e.g., Ekegusii, Luhya, Kikuyu, Dholuo, Kamba) is highly advantageous.
- Experience working with diverse global clients and different content management systems.
